What to Expect in Psychiatric Treatment

Your psychiatric treatment program is designed specifically for your diagnosis and long-term goals. Depending upon your condition, your treatment plan may include psychotherapy (talk therapy), medication management, or both. A psychiatrist will manage your medication and may also provide psychotherapy. More commonly, you will see a separate therapist or counselor who specializes in traditional therapies.

If your treatment plan includes medication management, your psychiatrist or another clinical professional will monitor the dosage of your prescribed medications and schedule regular check-ins to discuss changes in your symptoms and any side effects you may be experiencing.

Our Intake Process

We understand that choosing treatment for a mental health disorder is a big sep, and we want to make things as stress-free as possible for you. We have developed a simple admissions process you can complete over the phone in as little as 15 minutes. We provide a complimentary assessment, free insurance benefits check, and help coordinating local travel to our facility.  All you or your loved one has to do is ask for help; we will take care of the rest. Contact us today to learn more.

Our pre-admission clinical assessment is performed by experienced, empathetic Treatment Advisors, many of whom have received treatment themselves. They understand what it’s like to be the person on the other end of the phone — frightened and desperate for help.

During the phone call, a treatment advisor will ask questions and engage you in discussion to learn more about your needs and confirm that you will benefit from Guardian Recovery’s treatment program.

They will ask you questions about:

  • History of mental health disorders and any accompanying substance misuse.
  • Family history.
  • Physical and psychological health history.
  • Current medications.
  • Treatment history.

Frequently Asked Questions

To learn more, you are encouraged to read our FAQs and contact us if you have further questions.

You will be assigned a therapist upon admission based on your diagnosis. If you feel that individual is not a good match for you, we can discuss connecting you with a different therapist. Depending upon your care plan, you may also work with other therapists in group therapy or programs like life skills training and experiential therapy.

Mental health treatment is not one-size-fits-all. We understand that you are an individual with a unique background and needs. We begin analyzing those needs during your pre-admission assessment and investigate them further once you enter our treatment program. A team of clinical professionals will review what we learn from you and develop a multi-modality treatment program they believe will serve you best. They will review that program with you and ask for your input.

Many health insurance policies cover the cost of treatment partially or in full, including evaluations, but it can be hard to understand your coverage. We provide a free insurance assessment to take the guesswork out of your insurance benefits. We will contact your insurance provider to learn more about your coverage. Then, we will call you to explain what we learned in easy-to-understand language.

Guardian Recovery accepts most major insurance plans. For a free insurance assessment, have the following information ready when you call:

  • Your full name and date of birth
  • Name of your insurance provide
  • Member ID or policy number
  • Type of plan

We also can work with you on alternative ways to pay for treatment if you do not have health insurance.

Mental health disorders, like many other medical conditions, often respond well to medication. Depending upon which Guardian Recovery facility you choose, medical professionals will be part of your treatment team and advise you on whether medication may improve your condition and which medication(s) may be right for you.

Guardian Recovery treats a wide range of mental health disorders as a primary diagnosis or as part of a dual diagnosis with substance misuse. Some of the conditions we commonly treat include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
