Our Program
Treatment Tailored to Adolescent Girls
At Guardian Adolescent, we treat a range of behavioral health concerns, providing adolescent girls with the demographic-specific care they need to address unique challenges. Many of our clients struggle with untreated mental health concerns, process addictions, substance use issues, and a variety of other challenges. While Boca Raton Adolescent Center primarily treats substance use disorders, we also specialize in treating complex developmental trauma and co-occurring issues.
In our adolescent program, a strong emphasis is placed on age-specific issues and challenges. For example, the impact of social media, peer pressure at school, family dynamics, and the stress associated with preparing for a transition to college and independent living. These topics are addressed in therapeutic groups and individual therapy sessions. We help our adolescent clients gain self-awareness and emotional regulation skills, ultimately fostering independence, lasting motivation, and freedom from the issues holding them back.
At Boca Raton Adolescent Center, we blend evidence-based therapies with recreational activities to offer a balanced recovery path. Our center provides a nurturing and safe environment for teenagers to heal, thrive, and continue their education while strengthening family connections.
Therapeutic Services
We offer a suite of effective therapies, including:
- Holistic Therapy (yoga therapy, art therapy, music therapy)
- Equine Therapy
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Boca Adolescent Center offers a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to therapy tailored specifically for teenage girls. Our center provides a nurturing environment where each aspect of the program is designed to address not just substance use but also co-occurring mental and behavioral health issues, such as trauma, eating disorders, and challenges within family systems. This holistic approach ensures that the treatment encompasses all facets of life.
One of our center’s standout features is our dual diagnosis capability. Recognizing that substance use often coexists with mental health conditions, we offer treatment services that simultaneously address both aspects. This approach is crucial for teenagers, as it provides a more comprehensive understanding of their issues and offers more effective strategies for dealing with them. Our dual diagnosis approach includes treatment for self-injury, eating disorders, trauma, and family dynamics, acknowledging that these factors are often interconnected and need to be addressed together for effective healing.
The therapeutic approach is founded on an integrated, holistic, and comprehensive trauma-informed model. Among these, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and coping skills training play a significant role. We teach practical skills for emotional regulation and distress management, focusing on making these skills accessible and understandable for teenagers. These skills are crucial for helping adolescents navigate the challenges they face and for fostering resilience and independence.
The Serenity Room
A particularly innovative aspect of the Boca Adolescent Center is the Serenity Room. This space exemplifies our commitment to holistic, sensory-friendly healing environments. Designed as a safe and calming space, the Serenity Room includes elements like a standing bubble tube, a wall-mounted water filtration bubble system, and adjustable LED lights. These features create a sensory experience that can help soothe and calm the clients, providing a peaceful retreat where they can decompress and process their emotions in a tranquil setting. The room is not just for clients but also accessible to staff, acknowledging the importance of a supportive environment for everyone involved in the therapeutic process.
Experiential Therapies
Boca Adolescent Center also provides experiential therapies such as equine therapy. These sessions offer a unique way for teenagers to engage with treatment outside of a traditional clinical setting, providing opportunities for growth, learning, and healing through interaction with horses. Such activities not only aid in therapy but also offer recreational enjoyment, contributing to an overall sense of well-being and fulfillment.
Overall, our therapeutic approaches are characterized by a focus on understanding and treating the complex needs of adolescent girls. By combining traditional therapeutic methods with innovative and sensory-friendly environments like the Serenity Room and Art Therapy Room, we create a comprehensive, nurturing, and effective treatment environment for teenage girls.
Levels of Care
Guardian Adolescent offers two distinct levels of clinical care: partial hospitalization with housing and intensive outpatient treatment. Our clients stay engaged in PHP for between 30 and 90 days, depending on their unique needs, and subsequently transition into our IOP program, where they attend treatment sessions four days per week. The duration of our IOP program is based on individual progress.
Adolescent Partial Hospitalization (PHP) with Housing
Those who attend our PHP program with housing live on-site in our comfortable, 16-bed residence in Delray Beach, , Florida. PHP programming takes place 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday) for 5 hours each day. While engaged in the PHP portion of our clinical program, our clients begin to identify the root causes of their underlying issues. They develop personalized coping strategies and begin implementing the skills they learn in treatment in their day-to-day lives.
Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)
Our adolescent IOP program meets 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. IOP provides a more flexible level of clinical care, allowing adolescent clients the opportunity to reintegrate into their home living environment. This creates an opportunity to identify relapse triggers and maintain a recovery program outside of the treatment setting.
Our Family Program
At Guardian Adolescent, we offer a robust family program that includes family therapy, one-on-one sessions with family members, and a family workshop. Our family program is a fundamental component of every level of care we offer. We place a strong emphasis on creating or restoring healthy family dynamics and building healthy relationships among family members. Clients and their loved ones work on building skills that facilitate this process, such as communication, conflict resolution, and setting and maintaining boundaries.
Family therapy sessions take place once a week and can be virtual or in-person, depending on location. Family members have access to various additional resources, including a weekly support group. Boca Raton Adolescent Center hosts a three-day family workshop that is held every 6 weeks.
The Importance of Family Involvement
The Boca Adolescent Center emphasizes family-oriented services as part of its treatment programs for teenage girls. Recognizing the pivotal role that family plays in the recovery and well-being of adolescents, we incorporate a variety of family-centered therapies and activities to ensure a holistic treatment approach. Including the family in the treatment process is not just beneficial but crucial for the long-term recovery and mental health of our teenage clients.
A core aspect of the family-oriented services at Boca Adolescent Center is access to professionally facilitated family therapy sessions. These sessions are designed to address and heal the dynamics within the family system that may contribute to or be affected by the adolescent’s behavioral health challenges.
Our center offers weekly family therapy, which can be conducted both virtually and in person, thereby providing flexibility and accessibility to families regardless of their location. This consistent engagement with families is key to understanding the complex interplay between the adolescent’s behavior and the family environment. This comprehensive approach ensures that the individual and the family are equipped with the tools and understanding needed for lasting recovery and healthy family dynamics.
Family Education
A thorough education for the family of our clients is another vital component of our treatment program. It is not uncommon for families to arrive with little understanding of the issues their child is facing. Our approach includes educating the family about substance use, mental health, and effective communication and coping strategies. This education is crucial for building a supportive home environment, which ultimately facilitates the teenager’s recovery and reintegration post-treatment.
Family Support Group
Boca Adolescent Center also runs a weekly family support group meeting. These meetings are held virtually, allowing families from any location to participate. They offer a platform for peer support, where families can share experiences, challenges, and successful strategies. This communal aspect of the treatment ensures that families do not feel isolated in their struggles and can learn from the experiences of others facing similar situations.
The importance of family involvement in the treatment process cannot be overstated. When families participate actively in therapy and educational sessions, they gain insights into their child’s struggles and learn how to support them effectively. This involvement fosters stronger family bonds, improves communication, and helps develop a supportive network essential for the adolescent’s recovery journey. The center’s focus on changing the narrative from solely on the client to viewing the family as part of the solution underlines this philosophy.
Our Academic Program
Guardian Adolescent provides clients with a dedicated classroom where they participate in our academic program for 2 hours every weekday, Monday through Friday. A teacher will be present during class to monitor internet access and answer any questions that arise during schooling sessions. Because they are engaged in treatment full-time for between 30 and 90 days, our staff can facilitate a homeschooling plan where clients remain enrolled in courses from their high school. If the family or high school doesn’t support this plan, we can enroll our clients in an internationally accredited online high school during our care. Clients can participate in our academic program and transfer the credits back to their school. Our teacher and case manager will create an individualized plan that works best for the client and family.
